Who are we?

SummerStage at Leonia is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), theatrical organization which produces a family-friendly musical once a year, for three weekends beginning in July.  Based in the northern New Jersey town of Leonia and less than 3 miles away from NYC via the George Washington Bridge, SummerStage at Leonia thrives from the support of its community.

Our Mission

  •
  • Produce a high quality, family-friendly theatrical production in the month of July.
  •
  • Encourage community member participation in all aspects of theatrical production - both onstage and backstage.
  •
  • Establish partnership opportunities with local organizations.
  •
  • Nurture education in the performing and visual arts, particularly within educational institutions.
  •
  • Raise funds to support the Arts in the schools and similar community organizations.

What do we do?

Since 1999, SummerStage at Leonia, a team of theater lovers within the community, produces one musical each summer.  The organization has been fortunate enough to work with NYC actors and actresses with renowned credits, as well as Broadway designers.  SummerStage is so honored to have so many people dedicate their summers to create fabulous productions that are worthy of a NYC stage.

Some past productions include Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, Carnival, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Oliver!, The Sound of Music, The Music Man, Oklahoma!, Carousel, Annie Get Your Gun, A Grand Night for Singing, Bye Bye Birdie, Annie, South Pacific, Les Miserables and My Fair Lady.

Who Benefits from SummerStage?

Our Sponsors: SummerStage donors will be pleased to know that their contributions will serve to nurture a love of the Arts in the expanded community. Sponsors will benefit from broad exposure to a grateful audience and an appreciative greater community.

The Participants: SummerStage provides an opportunity for all participants--whether on stage, backstage, or in the audience--to glean insight into aspects of life and relationships presented in the play and in the artwork; to instill self-confidence, teamwork, pride in accomplishment, to further develop artistic talents, and perhaps even to launch careers.

Families: SummerStage activities often become a focus of family activities during the summer--bringing family members together in support of one another in a wholesome endeavor.

Recipients: SummerStage awards its net proceeds to the local schools, to disadvantaged inner city youth via The Hackensack Enrichment and Learning Program, local seniors, and to other local community theater groups expressly to support and nurture their cultural arts programs.

The Community: SummerStage serves as a focus of cultural life for the community during the summertime. Our greater community includes disadvantaged children from The Boys and Girls Club of Hackensack. The Arts can turn young lives around. We want that to happen.
